VIDEO: Unlocking the Genome: The Human Genome Project

National Association of Scholars

One of the most significant accomplishments in the history of human health was achieved with the completion of the Human Genome Project, an international effort to identify, map, and sequence all of the genes of the human genome. How did this project begin? What were some of the key challenges that needed to be overcome? What is the legacy of the human genome project today?

This event features Eric Green, director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the U.S. National Institutes of Health; Aristides Patrinos, Chief Scientist and Director for Research at Novim Group and a Visiting Scholar at NYU Langone Health; and Carlos Bustamante, a Professor in the Department of Physics, the Department of Chemistry, and the Department of Molecular and Cell Biology at UC Berkeley.
