Another Fox News Segment on NAS Freshman Summer Reading Study

On Tuesday, Fox and Friends hosted a segment on NAS's study "Beach Books: What Do Colleges Want Students to Read Outside Class?" The host, Steve Doocy, interviews guest and CATO senior fellow Tucker Carlson in a discussion on the study. Last week, NAS Director of Communications Ashley Thorne appeared on Fox News along with John K. Wilson to talk about NAS's findings. Click on the video below to watch the three-minute clip (via Media Matters).

Note: Mr. Carlson incorrectly characterizes the programs in our study as assigning mandatory reading. While some colleges and universities require students to read the "common book" assigned, many do not. He also incorrectly states that the study found six classic books among the 180 total. In fact, it found only four: Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, Henry David Thoreau’s Walden, Karl Marx’s The Communist Manifesto, and Mark Twain’s The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
