Video: DEI and the Politicization of the U.S. Intelligence Community

Restoring the Sciences Webinar Series

National Association of Scholars

“And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” Those words, on the insistence of Director Dulles, were engraved into the wall of the Central Intelligence Agency’s original headquarters building. But it seems that quote now serves as nothing more than an epitaph for an ethos of a bygone era, as intelligence professionals and citizens alike watch the CIA, and the intelligence community at large, abandon truth and service to the United States in favor of advancing “diversity, equity, and inclusion,” or DEI.

That trinity may sound wholesome, but the reality is far from it, and the CIA ought to know.

This event features Dr. John Gentry, an adjunct professor at the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University and a former CIA analyst. In 2021, he wrote a paper in the International Journal of Intelligence and Counterintelligence, arguing that while DEI advocates claim their policies improve operational performance of intelligence agencies, no evidence exists to support those claims. If anything, DEI initiatives appear to be detrimental, if not dangerous, to the mission of intelligence agencies.

This webinar is hosted by J. Scott Turner, Director of Intrusion of Diversity in the Sciences Project, and Mason Goad, research associate and author of Ideological Intensification.
