The "Affirmative Action" Colleges Really Need

George Leef

In today's Pope Center piece, Professor Robert Weissberg argues that the quality of college teaching (often very low) would improve if schools had more students who were interested in learning, since those students could perhaps elicit more effort from professors used to putting in the least they can get away with. Getting more students (a "critical mass") who actually want to learn (an "underrepresented minority group") would call for a real affirmative action program.
