The National Association of Scholars (NAS) is partnering with the Foundation Against Intolerance and Racism chapter in Colorado (FAIR Colorado) to protect K-12 students in Colorado from political indoctrination and to ensure that every child receives a quality education.
NAS sent a letter to the Colorado State Board of Education on January 10, 2022, urging them to revise the recently released Draft Revision Recommendations for Colorado Academic Standards: Social Studies. FAIR Colorado sent a similar letter critiquing the racially divisive message of the revised standards and calling for the Board of Education to adopt an approach that “emphasiz[es] each person’s individuality as opposed to their group identity an immutable characteristics” and that “respect[s] each student while teaching the fullness and complexity of our history and humanity.”
FAIR Colorado has also organized a petition where Colorado residents can share their concerns with the Colorado State Board of Education and join the fight for quality education. The petition urges the Colorado State board of Education to revise the state standards in accordance with the following principles:
- Teaching students America’s full history, not only focusing on our flaws but also on how our founding principles have led to unprecedented flourishing for people across demographics.
- Motivating students to know that in our shared humanity, we are individuals with self-determination. We do not condone dividing students into stereotyped identity groups based on immutable characteristics.
- Encouraging students to be informed, engaged citizens, but not pressuring them to be activists for specific causes.
We encourage all of our Colorado members to consider signing this petition. Like all children, Colorado school children deserve a first-rate education free from indoctrination.
