NAS Member Barbara Oakley Teaches Popular MOOC

National Association of Scholars

NAS member Barbara Oakley has been teaching a truly massive MOOC, "Learning How to Learn," based on her book, A Mind for Numbers. The course currently has over 180,000 students and is expanding at a rate of 10,000 students per day. It is the biggest course on learning ever taught.

One student, an instructional designer from Fanshawe College, said of the MOOC, "The concept of actually teaching someone how to learn somehow seems to have been overlooked by every educational institution which I have ever attended, yet the basic skills as depicted in [the] course provide such an excellent and powerful foundation for learning."
