The National Association of Scholars mourns the passing of long-time member J. Michael Zuromskis, who passed away on March 19, 2021. He is survived by his wife, brother, and sister. Mr. Zuromskis became a lifetime NAS member in 2014.
An obituary published by The Lincoln County News notes that Mr. Zuromskis graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy in 1956 and from Harvard College in 1960. He went on to receive an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of the Cumberlands in 2014. In addition to being an NAS member, Mr. Zuromskis was a member of Squadron A, a New York City-based philanthropic organization, and the Royal Automobile club in London.
Mr. Zuromskis enjoyed a successful career in real estate and entrepreneurship, during and after which he “engage[d] in the things he truly enjoyed, i.e., international travel, American Impressionist painting, chamber music, gourmet cooking, vintage cars, classic boats, and time with friends.” If only we are all so present to take advantage of our world’s wonders.
We are very thankful for Mr. Zuromskis’ long association with the NAS and his life-long fight to sustain and entrench the virtues of liberal education for future generations.
