Introducing John Sailer, Keeping the Republic Project Lead

Peter Wood

I’m pleased to introduce the newest member of the National Association of Scholars staff, John Sailer, who joined NAS as the project lead for our new Keeping the Republic Project on June 1, 2021.

Keeping the Republic contributes to NAS’s larger project to preserve traditional civics education against the threat of New Civics, which replaces civics educations with vocational training for progressive activism. Keeping the Republic will also support the work of the Civics Alliance, a new coalition NAS formed in March comprising education reformers, policymakers, and concerned citizens. John Sailer work’s as Keeping the Republic Project Director will assist NAS Director of Research and Civics Alliance Policy Director David Randall.

John holds a BA in Politics, Philosophy, and Economics from The King’s College and an MA in philosophy and education from Columbia University, Teachers College. He is currently working on an MA in Liberal Arts at St. John’s College, Annapolis. He has worked as a teacher and university debate coach, and he has published articles for academic journals and popular outlets. He lives in North Carolina with his wife and daughter. In his spare time, he likes to cook, read, and play chess.

Please join me in welcoming John to the NAS staff. He may be reached at sailer@nas.org.
