From Each According to His Earnings

Plans that would make the repayment of student loans contingent on the income of the student after graduation have been much discussed of late. In this week's Pope Center Clarion Call, I argue that this is not a good idea. It would encourage more weak students to give college a try, taking out loans to cover the cost, and repaying only a small percentage of their income if things don't turn out well. I think we need to focus on discouraging young people from taking on college debt unless they're apt to benefit substantially from their studies.
